Telepractice Makes Intensive Services Easier

An intensive block can noticeably increase the rate of improvement in therapy and make sure that exercises are being undertaken in the optimum way. Intensive sessions are a great idea for school holidays.  Here is a story about the value of intensive physiotherapy when there was an opportunity for daily therapy because children were home because of COVID_19.

“Prior to telehealth, we were having fortnightly, or sometimes monthly sessions, mostly around stretching, strength, balance, and bike-riding, and we were seeing gradual improvement. During the lockdown period, we decided to try an intensive block of daily physiotherapy sessions for 2 weeks via telehealth, and it was remarkably beneficial for this young girl. Every day, we would do a series of stretches, followed by a couple games over Zoom that incorporated exercises that I specifically selected to target our goals and her areas of need. The girl visibly improved in her whole body strength, flexibility, stamina and coordination, and best of all, she was enjoying doing daily exercise. At the end of the intensive, we recorded our Zoom session so the family would have a video copy of our entire list of exercises, so the girl (and her sister!) could watch the video and follow along to do the exercises every day. Since the end of the intensive, we have gone back to fortnightly sessions (due to affordability) but the young girl has maintained the gains from our intensive block.”

We are now able to progress the difficulty of her exercises more regularly because she is keeping up with the exercises outside of our physiotherapy sessions. Mum is very happy with her overall improved fitness and abilities, and at her recent visit to the hospital clinic, the allied health team were very surprised to see the progress she had made.” Jane, EarlyEd physiotherapist.
